Accessible Travel and Leisure introduces barrier-free river cruises
2010.12.02
ABOVE: In 2011, Britain's Accessible Travel & Leisure will operate four cruises on the wheelchair-friendly MS Alegria.
A British firm, Accessible Travel & Leisure, has announced what it describes as "a unique product: the only passenger ship which has been specifically adapted for the disabled market and sails on European Waterways."
The vessel, MS Alegria, "offers a number of deluxe cabins with toilets and showers totally accessible by wheelchair. The ship's spacious lift can take passengers in wheelchairs, scooters, or using mobility aids from their cabin deck to the promenade deck, allowing the ship to be a totally barrier-free environment. The embarkation and disembarkation are fully wheelchair-accessible, and coach transfers from the UK are provided by adapted coaches."
Accessible Travel & Leisure will operate four cruises aboard MS Alegria in 2011, including a "Holland & Bulb Fields Cruise" in April, two "Historic Towns of the Rhine Cruise" departures in May and September, and a "Castles and Wine on the Rhine Cruise" in late September.
